Why Do People Care What We Pay or Receive For a Player?
Genuine question. It's not our money it actually has little bearing on their success. To be honest it's as much an indicator of fame than anything else.

I keep seeing things like we should only buy him if he's four million but no way at 8 million.

I'm genuinely intrigued by this phenomenon.

Surely we should simply ask will he improve the team or the squad and leave it to whoever to decide whether we can afford the fee, the wages etc.

Dunno; the news article I referred to was generic but related to Payet. Didn't go into specifics.

No doubt; the reality is, we are the only real stakeholders, if you consider owners can sell and leave at any stage.

We are the only constant in an ever evolving process.

As long as we get the right player i couldn't give a fuck how much they cost.

Contracts are not broke when we sell a player, it's just passed on to the buying club or renegotiated

"we'd sell him in a heart beat and break the contract"

We would have to reach a financial settlement to withdraw from the contract you mean?

Virginia, because we are more vital stakeholders who pay IN and the players are employee stakeholders who take OUT.

Quite an important distinction.

Re: Why Do People Care What We Pay or Receive For a Player?
I read a recent news article (telegraph/guardian) that talked about how there is no loyalty in football apart from supporters. WHU can moan about Payet's lack of loyalty but if he was shit or didn't fit in we'd sell him in a heart beat and break the contract, therefore why shouldn't players do the same? All makes sense to me.

To the thread, the only constant in football is the supporters. They pay to watch, and somehow or other the club/owners/players/ serve up some sort of entertainment/drama/shit/performance. We all turn up, and then moan about how bad we are, or in WHU's case, have an occasional wank to go with lots of moaning, but not as much moaning as on KUMB.

The bottom line is we should care who gets sold for what because if we lose money and fail to run the business properly we'll go down the shitter. Ask the Icelandics.

Re: Why Do People Care What We Pay or Receive For a Player?
I'd like West Ham to spend out loads on consistently good performing players and players who consistently play.

All our historical success has relied on the above.

Re: Why Do People Care What We Pay or Receive For a Player?
Because money received should allow us to spend more.

Take it to the extreme to prove the point. You wouldn't take 2 mil for Payet, as we need some money to reinvest. You also wouldn't spend 30 MIL on Hogan, as we would be unable to buy any other players.

Re: Why Do People Care What We Pay or Receive For a Player?
Nicely summarised takashi miike, it would be a disaster to spend 50m on a championship quality player like snodgrass, therefore cost control is important

Re: Why Do People Care What We Pay or Receive For a Player?
Well the owners don't exactly always cover themselves in glory with this, do they?

Derisory offers for Defoe and Snodgrass, then have the cheek to sneer at OM when they try to get Payet for less than what they consider he is worth. Which still amounts to double what they paid for him.

Treatment

It is a good question. You have to understand that the majority of morons on here are determined to dig out the owners whatever they do. However, they are apparently oblivious to the contradiction.

On one hand they owners don’t spend money on players, on the other, they spend too much.

Re: Why Do People Care What We Pay or Receive For a Player?
I think we overspent on the players we brought in this Summer - obviously, not in the same way Leeds did.

They bought players they couldn't afford, we bought players we could afford, but who were overpriced and not very good (or, just possibly, in the case of Ayew and Feghouli, are taking an age to show how good they are).

Jasnik 6:48 Tue Jan 24
Re: Why Do People Care What We Pay or Receive For a Player?
you said : 'decide whether we can afford the fee, the wages'

If we keep underselling our players eventually we wont have that money to buy someone else.
so getting the most for a player is important as it dictates whom we can bring in later down the line .

Re: Why Do People Care What We Pay or Receive For a Player?
WAGES.

Because there are FFP rules on how much we can spend on wages, season-per-season.

Paying Payet to do nothing - just to pluck an example from thin air, you understand - means we have less to spend on others' salaries.
